Forum 05-23-08

The Forum Question: What part of your practice would you like to renovate, and how might it improve your business?

  • Example: Website: update it because it no longer matches business
  • Systematize setting up speaking engagements.
    • Suggestion: join speakermatch.com. The important thing then is to follow up.
    • Knowing who to reach, where our market is, what organizations they belong to. And then following up.
    • Know which associations speak to your market and when they enroll speakers: get their calendar before you approach them.
    • Create a tickler file to help you follow up repeatedly.
  • Create passive income streams/productize services
    • Get sponsors/advertisers for your blog, or sign up for affiliate marketing programs
    • Susan Tollefson has a pilot program for creating a product that's a DIY version of what she does. When people use these products, which are more generic than your services, they find out how valuable you really are.
    • Turn your expertise into a product: a book, CD, DVD.
    • Then bundle that with someone else's book.
    • If you use assessment tools with clients, consider selling those as products.
    • Cross-sell your services with clients who have compatible practices.
